Check the headlight bulbs or any other bulb on the truck, the voltage will be printed on them somewhere. Most folks converting did change to neg ground in the process. You can also check either the value of the coil or for the presence of an inline ceramic resistor, convertsers needed to either change the coil or add a resistor.

You don't need anything special for a brake job. Except maybe a hellacious pair of brake pliars or huge slipjaw pliars.

I have a square top carb too, stick with the oil bath filter. It's a much better system really - my opinion. The only problem if you go offroad a lot is that the carb air horn screws may get loosened up or may strip out (as mine have) and then the air horn is vulnerable to breaking in half (as mine did).
