the rear axle has been changed, might be a good idea to pull the front cover and see that it has intact gears with a MATCHING RATIO!!
My first PW 57 W100 had an 8 lug DANA 70 rear. When I pulled the front cover, I found a wasted pinion and no ring gear. Seems the previous owner failed to get the correct ratio in the rear, and exploded the front while in 4wd.
