Depends on the state. In Kansas you must apply for a quite title. Apply for a title via the court. Then put a legal notice in a public paper 1 day a week for 3 weeks. If no one protests the judge signs off and you get your paper work to go to the tag department and get the tag and title. It usually costs about 500$ for a lawyer to do it.
