You were comparing a Ford 250 drive line to a FF PW drive line, not a M37 to a FF PW, so don't change the subject matter to something I never discussed. I believe, and you confirm above, that the U joints and drive shafts used in Ford 250 4X4 are later tech than the U joints used in a Dodge WW II WC or FF PW. Argument closed.

The vertical distance from the transfer case to rear axle may decrease as the springs sag over time, but that angle was designed to change during driving via the springs. The drive shaft angle to the side (the horizontal distance from center of t/c to offset pumpkin) does not change as the springs sag or flex. That constant angle is the one that will cause problems.

Bottom line: if running the rear drive shaft from a new center yoke on a FF PW transfer case to the offset rear pumkpin on a FF PW rear axle was wholly satisfactory, then no one would ever swap out an FF PW offset rear axle for a late WW II WC 3/4 ton 4X4 centered rear axle. The fact that many people do that indicates the former "fix" is not satisfactory. But why learn from other's experience when you can try and discover everything for yourself?
