I think we are talking about 2 different ideas. The NP-200 T Case rear outputs (center and offset) both turn when driving under power. Moving the drive shaft to the center output will only take loading off the gears going to the offset output. The result 'should' be less noise and heat.

The picture is the 1949 Dodge Route Van with the offset engine. The idea Jonas and I are considering is really a reverse, driving off the center output of the T case and going to the off set differential. After reading Freds post on this topic, its very possible that even through Dodge built this configuration, it might not have been best ???
