The angle of the single rear drive shaft going from the higher centered new rear yoke on the back of the transfer case to the lower offset PW rear axle yoke is excessive for the U joints and stresses them, producing rumble. A friend tried your proposal many years ago and was not pleased. He replaced his offset PW rear axle with a centered late WC 3/4 ton centered rear axle and was much happier. For a quick and rough test, disconnect your rear drivshaft from the lower yoke on the transfer case, move the upper end to behind where the upper yoke would be added, lift one wheel off the ground so the rear pumpkin will turn, and turn the driveshaft from the top to simulate your proposal. Check the U joints closely for operating angles and smoothness during rotation. You likely will be outside their operational range (and no, I don't know the number of degrees).
