My daughter and I built my '87 Cummins Turbo Diesel using the frame and running gear from a '91 CTD and the body from an '87 1/2 ton, D150. The '89 to '93 CTD trucks all used the NP205 transfer case, which is about the strongest, gear drive transfer case used in light duty trucks. Ain't no chain drive transfer cases here.

When I get some spare time, I want to try fitting a bellhousing from an IHC truck to the 6BT Cummins to see if there may be some alternatives available for heavy duty 5-speeds from International. At this time, I have a spare bellhousing from a '91 CTD and an IHC 345 V-8 that may be a starting point for this research. I believe that the IHC and 6BT engines use the SAE #3 bellhousing standard.
