Marty,
Here is the scoop as of today,...The 47RE transmission problems are becoming urban legend. The problem has been traced to people towing or hauling heavy loads with the overdrive engaged. The overdrive is always on and must be disengaged manually before towing or carying large loads. This is seldom done. Dodge was going to use the Allison this year in the new HO ISB Cummins, but the ongoing feud between gm and D/C over the Hummer H2 stopped that deal. Dodge has a new trans, as good as the Allison, the 48RE (Tim, what is the 49RE???) The 48 has not yet been approved by the communists running California for use with the ISB Cummins, therefore Dodge has only shipped limited units to the other 49 states. The rarity of the new trans and the fact that it is excellent means that the repair shops you talked to know nothing about it, and most likely will never see it. My Chassis/Cab will carry more weight than any of you will most likely ever see, it weighs 8,100 lbs empty, I routinely carry over a 1,000 lbs of tools, all boxes in the 11' body are full! About twice a week I have 3-4,000 lbs of cargo in addition to that load. It wants, no it BEGS for more to do! Fix your ferd, save for a real truck, and e-mail me when you're ready for a revelation! ha!ha! I am SO HAPPY that I dumped that power joke!!!
