I have a '99 Dodge 2500 diesel with a 5sp. You are right, the stock Dodge auto trans won't hold up to the diesel. Since I usually run around 9000 lbs and tow quite a bit I got the 5 sp. I am also a member of the Turbo Diesel Registery and there are quite a few mwmbers that have had their transmissions reworked, after they have had trouble,so that they do hold up. Some of these guys are pushing 500HP and ??? for torque. There are many reputable shops that do them around the US. You can look at massdiesel.com and see what they do.
