I have a 77' dodge M-886 (ambulance) I had a weird thing start happening w/my eletronics in that the truck would start 7 run fine until it got to full temp....then it would die, a friend who has a similar vehicle told me to check the 10guage wire going to the ammeter... (it was melted & starting to burn through!) I disconnected the ammeter & placed a 30amp in-line fuse , & installed a voltmeter seperately (it's alot more accurate) & al of the fuuny electrical things going on stopped. it was explained to me later that alot of juice flows through that ammeter & when they begin to fail, it slows down the amount of juice going through the system which causes a build up of heat on the incoming side of the ammeter. sorry about the long post & hope this helps a little.
