If so, hitting the starter will probably cost you one or more rings or ring sets, usually the compression rings. You may wish to pull the head and "pickle" the engine in diesel for a few days. If you have any rusty cylinders, hone, emery cloth or wetsand them out before turning the engine to save the rings then flush out with hot soapy water and hand oil the surfaces. Turn the engine so that the piston moves down away from the rust to clear the area around the sides of the pistion tops too, if possible.
