it was a common practice (in the 40's & 50's) for the mechanic who performed the dealers
"pre-delivery inspection" to
put some code on the firewall of the cars/trucks as an identifier if the car returned for some problem later (allthough the warranty was only like 30 days or 1000 miles)
usually in yellow tire crayon
