The upper adjusters move the toes of the shoes in a long ways. So far, that the heals rotate inward away from the drum slightly also. I have never had to adjust the lower cams and move the Heals in order to remove drums. Not saying it may not have to be done in extreme cases. I can see drums becoming worn with deep enough grooves that the lower cams may have to backed off also. But for the majority of cases, backing the top adjusters off all the way should work fine.
