I've done this before.
If you're going to do it, you're better to replace right down to the back of the cab in one piece just like it was originally installed.
It's a fair bit of work, but fairly straight forward. I cut mine through the front windshield posts & welded it back instead of getting into the complicated seam above the windshield.
