When I moved back to Nebraska from Texas, where'd I'd bought my WONDERFUL... (and often combustionable...) M-880, the VIN tag didn't match the one on the driver's door. I figured someone 'hammered' the door, so some motor pool mechanic grabbed one off of a parts truck put it on. So the StategestapoTrooper then looked at the plate on the front of the dash. I tried to explain that was a military plate with military inventory numbers and nomaclature on it (none of the numbers matched anything) so he went hunting for the hidden VIN. (1978 M-880 is under where the passenger's feet are, on the frame). WOW, another number completely different!!! (now I'm guessing again that maybe the Army rolled the truck and sat a whole new cab on it) So... my wonderful home state of Nebraska's answer to 'too many VINs'?!? Assign another one and mail you a plate to rivet to the door jam!!!!! "You have too many, so we're going to assign you another one." It came on a piece of stamped, paper thin, aluminum in a little envelope. I left it in the glove box for the next owner 'cause I'm guessing on the door jamb would have ripped off about the second time you shut the door!! Gotta' love some Gov't ideas...
