Liquid Gasoline does not burn, its the vapours that burn. Depending on additives and octane boosters added to gasoline a good rough figure of -55 degrees below zero is the flash point. The vapours will only burn when the vapours and Oxygen bring it into the flammable range. To little Oxygen or to much oxygen and you will not ignite the vapours. By oxygen, we are dealing with atmospheric air. You have no idea what the Oxygen concentration is, so all gasoline as with other flammables must be treated with the most respect. Spilled Gas is nothing to mess with. It can cost you your life, it can/will burn you and you still may die.

Respect the warnings, NO SMOKING or Open Lights and use care and you will be fine. Dont even use Gasoline to wash your hands. While your rubbing your hands, its 'possible' for a static spark to ignite the vapours, and its all over.

Once ignited, gasoline, again depending on additives and octane boosters will burn at the rate of approx 12 inches per hour. Does not matter if you have a test tube or a 300 foot open top tank, its a known burn rate.

Be Careful

Paul
