The power take-off, as found on a WDX-WM300 1-ton model Power-Wagon, always operates at 61-1/2% of engine speed when turning enginewise and 47-1/2% of engine speed when turning counter enginewise. This change in R.P.M. is the result of the difference in the number of teeth on the sets of meshing gears (and their resulting ratio) through which motion is transfered to the output shafts for each of the two directions of rotation. With the engine rotating at 872 R.P.M., the front and rear output shafts of the PTO will rotate at the A.S.A.E standard speed of 536 R.P.M., when turning enginewise. With the engine rotating at 1129 R.P.M., these same shafts will rotate at 536 R.P.M. when turning counter enginewise.

The power take-off was controlled only from inside the cab on stock Power-Wagons. Most wrecker bodied trucks, and some pole derrick and other special purpose winch trucks, were rigged with additional levers, at one end of the truck or the other, to provide an operator with the means to control the truck's clutch, power take-off, winch, and various additional splitter boxes while outside of the cab.

To the best of my knowledge, the rear mounted hydraulic lift kit (3-point hitch) accessory, as seen in the "Power-Wagon film", was operated solely from a lever inside of the cab. It appears to have operated totally independent of the trucks transmission mounted power take-off as it was powered "live" from a pump driven from the engine's crank shaft that was mounted along side of the winch next to the front frame rail.

I have not seen any drawings or parts list for the 3-point hitch components. I created the .jpeg files of the Power-Wagon pto parts from 3-D solids that I made while messing around in a computer modeling and engineering program.

You can send photos of the post hole digger to my email address above to keep from taking up Joe's bandwidth if you like. Just be sure to list your whole name and subject as I delete anything with attachments which I am not sure about.

Clint
