Mike, I guess I only answered half of your question...yes, I believe you could get an invertor for 6V. In the marine industry 12V, 24V & 32V are common, so I see no reason why a 6V coudn't be bought. Email either Heart Interface, or Trace & ask the experts, but I suspect you'd pay a fairly large price tag for such an item.
