In the process of restoring my 1948 B1PW I took the starter and generator to the shop to be cleaned, rebuilt, or whatever they needed. When I went to pick them up, I asked what he found wrong with them. His reply was: "Nothing! But while I had them apart I completely cleaned them, turned the comutators and undercut the comutator segements. They are as good as new!" The bill was $40.00 for both.
