i'm rebuilding a 1/2 ton centered differential for my wdx. i'd like to use the 3'rd member from the offset diff. my question is this, how can i tell how many gaskets to use if there is'nt any tag? the depth of the wdx housing(from the gasket surface on the diff. side to the surfacewhere the rear cover is welded on)is 3 7/8. where as the depth of the 1/2 ton housing is 3 3/4 inches. should i install the hubs and axles and depth mic from the gasket surface to the center of the axle shafts then compare this to the differential? or should i just assume the 1/8 inch difference is offset to the cover side of the housing? i know it's awfully winded but i thought i'd ask before i start destroying a rear end thanks, jim.
