i believe starting fluid can burn a piston out very quikley. it also washes the oil off the cyl walls and can actually bind the eng up for a short time. i have also replaced two starter in deisels this month do to starting with it(not buy me spraying it in ) it broke the nose right of the starter . the rebuild shop says he sees it alot come cold season.i would go with the electric pump if possible or only use the eather while the eng is allready turning. just my 4 cents worth.
