I had a 5 gal crock jug I bought at an antique store. Must have weighed 20 lbs. One day I got the bright idea to make home-made root beer. I got all the ingredients in the jug and put it in a cool dry place for 5 days. I found the jug exploded and 4 gallons of root beer on the garage floor!

Its probably better that you ship in plastic. A croc jug would sure hurt when dropped on a young toe. I am looking forward to ordering some syrup for this winter.
