The origin of the Coast Guard goes back to the 1700's when Alexander Hamilton, our first Secretary of Treasury, established a system of tariffs designed to raise revenue and to protect the manufacturing industry, and proposed a "system of Revenue Cutters" to enforce the provisions of the act. (OH MY GARSH, I was a Rev-e-new-er!!!) And I am deeply offended at your comment that I guarded "the coast of the bottomless lakes at El Capitan!!!" In actuallity, I was very busily envolved in National Security, guarding the entire coast line of Arizona on the "Good Ship Lollipop!" ;) -Dale
