Just putting the finishing touches on my 36' X 48' attached garage. I went with 8' X 10' & 8' X 18'. As everyone says, go with the 10' as opposed to 8'. You would regret the 8'wide door.

One thing I didn't realize and didn't plan on was the extra cost with the 18' door. The header was the problem. I went with a lvl beam and the company gave me the size I couldn't believe it. 5 - 1.75" X 12" beams! When the county reviewed the plans, they said they wanted more, so now I have a 11.5" X 12" beam and it is huge! There is a big difference when you span 18' as opposed to 16'. If I were to do it again I'd go with a steel I beam. Just a thought to consider. By the way, I still go with an 18' wide door. Kevin
