Assuming we are determing firewall mounted units: On Bendix boosters the two case halves are typically fastened together by means of interlocking tangs and slots around the circumference of each half of the case. They are known as Twist-Lock units. Midland units typically have a large band or clamp around the circumference that tightens with a screw. These are known as Band Clamp units (Ingenious, huh?) There are variants, so this is not Gospel, just rule of thumb.
