I bought the biggest hitch RedNeck Trailers made for my old 1974 D200 Dodge. I got it for 100$ but I got a special wholesale deal. Its a heavy duty hitch. I shopped around and looke dat all the farm store variety and decided they werent good enough. I'd go to a trailer/truck store and check out what they have. If you suspect you are getting to be to heavy for a bumper pull then maybe its time for a goose or 5th wheel. Also an equalizing setup may help also. I am surprised you got very far with a stock 97 bumper no matter what truck its on.
