Radiators exchange heat mainly through conduction not radiation (regardless of their name). Have you ever noticed how the aftermarket radiators are unpainted, and even alot of the new cars with aluminum radiators are unpainted. I think that the main reason that they are black is so that they are not as visable behind the grill. A secondary reason is to provide corrosion resistance. Though copper and aluminum are fairly inert, the solders that seal and hold them together are not.
