I've hauled several WDX's on U-Haul double axel trailers. It does get scary when you get them going over 50MPH...I guess they just don't have heavy enough springs. Don't tell them what you're hauling or they won't rent it to you.
I imagine if you were in an accident you'd be in trouble. The main difficulty is their tie-down straps will not fit over a 900/16 tire, so you have to go over the axel being careful not to pinch any brake lines etc.
I've also used their tow dollies for short hauls. The tires are a little wide to fit properly on the dolly, not allowing it to swivel properly. Same problem with straps.
I'd avoid U-Haul if you can, but if you don't have a proper trailer, it'll work in a pinch.
