I did the following to mount a Chevey 327 into my WC 53. Your situation may require a slightly different method. Mine came out very clean.

In answer to your question, the bell housing is centered. I used a late 50's ? Chevy truck rear engine mount and bell housing. The rear engine mount attaches to the bottom of the bell housing using rubber pads and bolts. The ends of the original mount were trimmed off and a "L" shaped bracket was welded to each end. (A mount could easily be constructed of either thick channel iron or box tube.) The short end of the "L" rests on and is bolted to the original Dodge bell housing mounting points on the frame. An edge was trimmed on these original mounting points. The lengeth of long side of "L" was determined by where the engine has to sit to give the SM420 transmission room to clear the center floor board hump. My engine is tilted slightly to the rear. The clutch lever is located on the passenger side. It was trimmed slightly to clear the original bell housing mounts on the frame. I have used both the original Chevy clutch slave cylinder that mounts to the bell housing and an aftermarket one that mounts to the bracket that I built to support the 4X4 shift and E Brake levers. It is bolted in the holes on the side of the SM420. I used a center floor board hump from a WM300 PW. It required only a small cut on the right side near the shift tower. The E Brake and 4X4 shift levers come through the original holes. Everything fits just fine. The jack shaft between the transmission and transfer case was lengthened a little. I am using a NP 2 speed transfer case from a WM300 PW.

The front engine mount bolts to the two holes at the base block just below each head on the front side. The mount then comes up and over the water pump conecting the two sides for strength. Each end of the mount has a plate and vibration pad attached to it which are in turn bolted to a plate welded to the top of the frame just rearward of the front frame cross member where the original front engine mount attached. I my opinion it would have been just as easy to attach to the original engine front mounting points, but I did not build the front mount.
