I bumped into some info at the inliners web site. There are gear sets that eliminate the timing chain and some high lift cams that were used in marine applications as well as dual carb and exhaust setups. I have a 265 forklift engine with the sodium valves and hardened seats (full precision balance). It turns higher rpm's safely and will move my M37 to near 70 on the flat. Horsepower does limit things like hillcliming speed. There was a heavy duty application that used a crankshaft damper that will help on the main bearings, but the same thing can be accomplished with a full balance job and the rods need all the help they can get. (offset bearings)
----Again, these flatheads are still raced and the inliner guys know their stuff. BOB
