Later model 251's have full-pressure type engine lubrication, using a full-flow type oil filter. The intake&exhaust port are in the block and are very well cast with a relatively smooth surface, but it probibly would'nt hurt to polish them some.Of course matching the intake&exhaust to block ports would help and a dual carb intake is the only way to help it breath better unless you get real cocky and use (3) carbs, one for each port but will reqire the use of a syncro gauge to set them for opt. performance.Early 60's 251's had about 115hp net at about 7:1 comp. but later 251's had about 125hp at about 8:1 comp. so yes raising the comp. helps but a Lhead is limited by design.A hi-po cam plus there have been articles on converting the dist. to early 70's type which produces a hotter spark.Last but not least, yes I have, but becky does it better!
