I just got off the phone with Skip at TSM. He told me some interesting things (i.e., stuff I didn't know...of course, just about any of you guys can do that). Skip cautioned me about putting one of these kits on my truck, unless I can find a disk brake front end first. He told me that even with proportioning valves, the rear brakes would probably lock up a good bit of the time, and that this is a very unsafe condition. He did say that if the primary use of the vehicle is "off roading" then it wouldn't make much difference. He also told me that the kit is set up for drums that require removal of the axle to remove the drums. Also, this setup does not require any welding. Everything bolts on, and everything is reversable (i.e., you can go back to drums). The disc/caliper is from a Chevy 3/4T front end, and is 12.5"; the price of the kit is $299, if you supply the calipers, for an additional $100, TSM will supply the calipers. It's quite a bit more if you need a wheel parking brake (i.e., not a drive shaft parking brake).

This sounds like something I'd like to do for my '65 W200. Now, who can tell me about swapping front ends? What fits in the way of a DANA 44, or better yet, a DANA 60. How about the steering linkage (I don't have or want PS).

v/r Mark
