Here's a good way to increase top speed without taking your whole drive train apart. Bolt a u-joint bracket on the center of the emergency brake drum next to the propeller shaft on the rear of the transfer case, and move the rear drive shaft over a foot or so. The u-joint and male spline are mounted on the drum and the rear drive shaft female spline slides over it. I don't know if the drive shaft needs to be lengthened, since mine was like this when I bought it in 1994. Of course, it is hard on the u-joints, but it definitely speeds things up. When in 4wd, the rear wheels go faster than the front, rather than the other way around. This can compromise steering authority, but I have not had trouble in the mud. It is also more important not to have it in 4wd when on hard surfaces! I hope this helps. Mine has transmission mods also, but this drive line mod is the most effective. Be sure things are centered well to avoid excess vibration (as though you could tell!)
