as a certified welder pipe/plate/structural, working for the us navy, i have encountered a great deal of situations that closely relate to that of automotive repair, new fabrication, ect.
i have found miller makes the most user freindly, high quality equipment....

remember when mig or flux core welding thin metals to place your gun tip at a 45 deg. angle in the direction of the weld with your votage relativey low in comparison to your speed. penatration should come easily using this method.

when arc welding thin metals 7018 (quick freeze) rods work best since they do not produce deep penetration. try using the same method described above...however dont get in a hury...turn your voltage way down(about 65 on miller welders)....a 1/32 rod works great but you cant weld more than 1 to 2 inches at a time or you will burn right through thin metals... once you have mastered the dreaded sticking associated with low voltage arc welding you are on your way to high quality welds for a fration of the cost involved with mig applications... visit your local welding supply store for e7018 1/16" quick freeze rods.
