Most locking and/or limited-slip differentials don't have any external components. Some, like an ARB Air Locker or similar have external wires or hoses. However, I'm not aware of any externally controllable units available for M37s or PWs. If there are any, I'd like to know about them, since they would be perfect for the front axle.
So, you might have a Detroit Locker inside. Or, the spider gears could be frozen up (gulp!).
