Hi Austin,

The phone number you gave was for Summit Racing. They said that this part is no longer available (or maybe they just don't stock it anymore). I'll do some additional checking to see if it's still manufactured or not.

The ignition system conversion kit that you described with the rotating cobalt magnets and Hall cell sounds very much like a Pertronix unit to me. If so, they don't make one specifically to fit the stock distributor for either a civilian or military 230-inch six. However, I'm adapting a Pertronix unit to a stock M37 distributor, but it requires some rework to the magnet sleeve to make it fit the cam assembly, as well as custom mounting the pickup module, phasing the spark, and adding a small resistor (for a 24V system). I'm just starting to test the distributor, but it looks like it will work admirably. I'm writing an article on how to do this. I got the Pertronix kit from Genesee Products http://www.ytmag.com/genesee/index.htm

As to any power increase, you should see SOME improvement, but 20 percent would GREATLY surprise me. I would think something like 5 percent would be more realistic. However, it should also improve starting and make timing much more consistent and reduce maintenance.

There is a chance that a Mallory kit for a Ford six could be adapted, but I haven't had a chance to order one yet and take any measurements to see what would be involved. One problem with the Mallory kit is that it requires an external module, which is not good if you're doing a stock restoration, plus there would be some voltage issues on M37s with 24V systems.

Anyone else out there have any experience with breakerless conversions for a 230?

Thanks,

Alan
