for the last few months i have been trying to come up with a way to make my m-37 into more of a work truck. i have a command car for play & i recently bought a house. i have been using the 37 to get things in shape, but the m37's bed is too short to carry lumber, ladders, etc and adding a ladder rack would necessitate adding a hardtop and headache rack for safety. then i have to deal with a slow drivetrain and no powersteering. i can do the helitool power steering and 318 conversion, but that still leaves me with a truck that is still short. i found a 1985 international 4x4 truck that has a fire / rescue body on it. it is in mint shape and all systems work. it has 24k miles since new. i would be able to mount my compressor and welder in it and still have many compartments for stuff and a bed area in the middle equal to a 9 or 10 pickup bed. im going to drive it tomorrow. does anyone know about these larger internationals and how much speed i can expect? it is 4wd wih a meritor front axle i think. are hubs available or necessary. it is a five speed and i assume a two speed transfer case. if i can get it to do a reasonalble road speed without blowing it up, i think it would work for me. i was going to sell my yukon to buy a dodge 2500 cummins @35k and put a reading body on it. i dont want to drive my work truck everyday so i thought at 5500 for the truck i think its a good deal to accomplish my goal. any input is appreciated. i spoke to bob stahl and he is going to help me mount a proper winch to the truck. what do you guys think??? thanks, mannyc
