Steve, have a dozer shop and have operated d7 3t, all the way up to the d7 91v model. I repair tracks, finals, steering clutches, 150 OTC portable track press and sprocket pusher/puller set. A winch it is not, and never be understood by many, it is a double drum cable control unit, either a model 25 or 29 depending on how it is driven, live or dead, 9/16 is the largest that will go thru the sheaves, if you are breaking cable money says the brake/clutch is out of adjustment and dropping too fast and looping unitl it frays/breaks. Buy the manuals for the unit it will make u love the cablecontrol unit. It is very very hard to get adjsuted with out manual, timing the brake/clutch is extremely critical. Buy the ccu operator manual parts manual the whole works. Most cat mechanic cant adjust one any more because of hydra switch. For what u are doing use 1/2 IWRC right hand lay 24 strands if you can, stay away from wrecker crap! it might be cheap foreign cable, get the stuff in yellow pages from a wire rope and cable/ sling store, cat dealer will have it, where are you in texas anywhere close will adjust for free if you need, call if need walk thru send phone no have direct starter cnversion if pony dies for sale, 24 volt etc alternaors a lot of hot rod stuff, dso you have a dry clutch or oil, have a lot of clutch links in barn somewhere, lot is nla, good luck, 1/2 IWRC right hand lay 20somethng strands so you can install it easy, steel center! No junk! Call me incase u have a 3 sheive or 2 sheive it makes about 10 feet diff
