I'll try to tackle this. I think I have a handle on it. If I don't, hopefully someone else will set us both straight.

K = The series designation, all 1957 year models are "K series"
6 = The number of cylinders in the engine.
W = The model designation for four-wheel-drive.
300 = The weight rating. 300 is a 1-ton.

This truck for 1957 would be the "flatfender" 1-ton Civilian Power-Wagon. For 1957 "W300" would be a short abbreviation of the complete model number. In 1958 and up, the "W300" was a different truck altogether. The old flatfender then became the W300M for 1958-1960 and then it changed again to the WM300 from 1961 through 1968.
