I've run a 218 which rev'ed better than the 230 because of its shorter stroke. It very ran well down the freeway at 55 mph for years. I ran the stock 230 and now a fresh 251 rebuild. Because of the low gearing it performs about the same around town but I can now pull more hills without downshifting. This is a hugh benefit!
When it is complete it will be 8:1 comp, electronic dist, 2 bbl carb, custom intake and exhaust manifolds and I beleive hp approaching a stock v8 smallblock.
