As a parts guy at a Chrysler Dealership once told me "a 400 has the power of a 360 with the gas mileage of a 440" I had a 400 in my '78 and it was a boat ancher, I put a '65 413 Imperial motor in What a difference. Yes you could put the extra parts in the 400 to make it run, but It's alot easier to start with a good motor. As for the fit back when my dad used to truck pull his mechanic had either a Mil 3/4 or a FFPW that he put a 383 in. For the record it wasn't even close to my dad's 426 powered late 60's 1 ton, but then again not much of the compititation came close either. One of these days when I find a Pic of that truck I'll post them.
