Went through all of this in the great state of Calif. Check every vacuum connection, clean the carb, and change the oil. You might also check to make sure the carb is certified as a "correct" meaning it has a certification by BAR as a "legal" replacement. The correct edelbrock carb for here is the 1905. Good Luck
