Hi.

Some trivia to add to this interesting issue:

BB&N, an acoustic engineering firm in the Boston area, has (or had, anyway) an anechoic chamber equipped with a noisemaker used to develop SERIOUR acoustic energy for testing. This consisted of a Detroit Diesel 8V-71 driving an aircraft supercharger off of a Pratt-Whitney 18 cylinder radial engine. The output of the supercharger was ducted through a foghorn from a steamship. When at full chat, this monster developed 175dB! And you could hear it for blocks around when they fired it up, even though it was inside the chamber.

Pete
