For what its worth, in case you do go back for it...

I had one of those trucks too - almost identical, except with a 440 in it instead of a 318. The transfer case setup you describe is for an NP203. The "loc" setting locks the speeds of the front and rear axle together, basically like having a locker in your transfer case. When not in "loc", the transfer case acts like an open differential.

The rear axle is most likely a Dana 60, which is great. The front axle is probably a Dana 44 with the full-time hubs. I smoked the bearings in my 44 front and just replaced the whole axle with a Dana 60 because I didn't like the hub setup on the 44.

There is a small chance that truck had an optional heavy duty front axle, which would be a Dana 60. You can tell the difference by looking on the diff casting - in one of the webs of the casting, there will be a cast "60F" or "44F" depending. The knuckle size is much bigger on a 60, which makes it pretty obvious too. The nice thing about the Dodge Dana 60's is that you can order a pair of locking hubs from MileMarker to make it 2wd even though you are running the transfer case in either 2loc or 4loc. If you start getting into larger tires and lockers, its nice to be able to take it out of 4wd. 2wd capability is also more enjoyable on trails!

Anyway, if its got dual Dana 60's, it might be a good buy - the axles themselves are worth $1000 (US) easily. It wouldn't last long in a junkyard around here either.
