Powell Pickup

When I was down at the Hayes Truck & Tractor Museum in Woodland, California in August, I saw a unique pickup truck. It's a 1955 Powell. It certainly is not going to win any beauty contests, being about as squared off and plain as could be for that era. It looks like whomever designed it was also designing sheetmetal toy trucks.

Here is the really interesting part. These pickups are made from recycled 1941 Plymouth car chassis! And any Plymouth flathead from the 40's and early 50's they could find that was rebuildable went into them! 1000 pickups were built from 1954-56, and in 1956 300 2-door wagons were built. These were all built in Compton, California.
