Up here in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains it can get real cold in January + Febuary . I keep my 3 bay repair shop at a steady 45 degrees with a wall mount vented Empire gas heater. But when I want heat after having my 9X16 overhead door open to move a frozen vehicle in either under its own power or backed in with a Wrecker on my two post above ground lift or I want to wash the sand + salt off of one of my rigs + want to warm that shop up quick I turn on my 100K BTU Dayton space heater ,burns clean I use nothing but K 1 Kerosene in it,its noisy but it heats that shop quick + it is fairly well insulated so it holds the heat. 10 minutes of that space heater goin + its workin in one of my famous trademark sleeveless black T shirts. In my truck bay which is 24 wide by 35 long which was here when I bought the place 16 yrs ago + then I added the additional bays to.It also is not the most well insulated with a 12 wide by 10 high door I have a smaller 50K BTU space heater that burns clean + is not so noisy + a very old non vented Empire floor mounted propane heater with fire bricks in it that when on for a while the bricks start to glow + radiate heat. When I plan on bein in that shop for awhile I fire up my floor mounted Lenair brand waste oil furnace that I have had well over 22 years. After that furnace is on awhile that old shop gets very comfortable + I have it located on the west wall next to my work bench + old 60s era Snap on rollaway tool box.The way I have that shop set up I back a vehicle in + the heater sort of blows on the passenger side by the cowl or nose + seein that a lot of my work is under the car or truck on the floor workin with either floor, bottle or air bumper jacks + safety stands the floor + underneith of the vehicle can get pretty warm.I also do tire work in that old bay + along the back wall I have my Coats 40/50 tire machine all my truck + passenger car tire tools, patch + glues, wheel weight cabinet ,dunk tank ,pair of wheel balancers (old Snap on + Bada brand)my assorted floor + bottle jacks + Bishman brand air bumper jack.I am very aware of fire hazards + careful with my heaters + if I am doing any kind of repair work dealin with Gasoline such as fuel tank ,filters ,lines I shut off any open flame space heater + open doors.Workin in a garage + with gasoline you can never be to careful
