I am building a engine test stand that will be mounted on a shortened set of house trailer axles. I want to be able to put anything from a 251 thru 318 thru 4BT, with tranny on it. I plan to use 6 inch channel iron for the main rails. The length of the main rails is 6 feet with the axles 15 inches in from each end. Should I use 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8 thick channel ? Please no guess, thickness based on span, load and strength of materials is needed.

Thanks
Paul
