We had an old system, and had it pumped once a year. When the water started taking a long time to drain out of the tub, it was a signal to call the honey sucker. We were looking at having the system cleaned out with acid because it was getting so bad.
Then the town brought in sewer lines so we hooked into that.With the limited space and the Title 5 law that requires 100 feet between everyone's well & septic systems, it was time to hook up.
Most of the homes around here were built as summer cottages, not much need for an engineered system back then. A lot of systems were designed around 55 gallon drums. Not real good in today's world when you are sitting next to a water supply.
