Fred C pointed out that there was no known Dodge military 1/2 ton 4 x 4 at that time. They did make a 1.5 ton 4 x 4 around then though.

The wheels look to be later drop rim types and may not be right for it, but it's sitting right for a 4 x 4, even the rear track isn't too bad. Since it's pretty tired looking I'd be amazed if whatever 4 x 4 conversion was done to it wasn't done 50 years back or more.

Options would be;
1. It's a genuine army 1/2 ton 4 x 4.
2. VC running gear bolt on (not ordinary 1/2 ton as the axle ends are too small)
3. Coleman or Marmon-Herrington conversion.

It was worth the bid price (last time I looked) as an intact restorable '36 pickup with all the major parts there, even if it's the cheapest of the three options above and just has VC axles and transfer stuck on it.
