Hi Ramdawg,
The Misnomer engine known as the "Big Block" (actually it is BIG HEADS!) is the 318 Poly. This engine is also know as the 'baby Hemi' since it has hemispherical heads, but only one row of rockers with canted exhaust valves and a non-centered spark plug which technically makes it a Polyspherical head. It can be easily identified by the "saw toothed" lower edge of the valve covers and the evenly spaced intake runners and exhaust manifold. This motor is a little harder to find parts for, but the parts are out there and well worth the effort. Mopar Muscle Mag. built a Poly last year with 405 HP and 455 lbs of torque. I have one in my W200 and it is conservatively rated at 333 HP at 18 mpg.
Long Live the Poly!
